At Kadia Kids (OT) we prioritise your kids wellbeing and help kids not only overcome challenges but also thrive in play, life and school.
With a focus on catching challenges before they are bigger struggles, we strive to help your kids reach their full potential.
Our School Readiness Screening Assessment is designed to give you an understanding of where your child is at and resource you to support their transition into Prep.
School readiness screening is a supportive check-in that helps parents understand how their child is travelling with the everyday skills needed to start and succeed at school.
Rather than testing or labelling, this screening looks at the foundations for learning—such as attention, emotional regulation, communication, independence, motor skills, and the ability to cope with classroom routines. These are the skills that help children participate confidently, follow instructions, manage their belongings, and engage with learning and peers.
For many families—especially first-time parents—it provides clarity and reassurance. You’ll gain a clear picture of your child’s strengths, where they’re developing well, and whether there are any areas that would benefit from simple support at home or school.
Our screening is OT-led and play-based, designed to feel positive and encouraging for children, while giving parents practical, easy-to-understand feedback. If everything is on track, you leave with confidence. If support would be helpful, you leave with clear guidance and next steps—not guesswork.
It’s about early insight, not early intervention for the sake of it—helping children start school feeling capable, supported, and ready to learn.
This screening is designed for children who are about to go into Prep in 2026 and is designed to give you and your child a head start.
Our school readiness screening looks at the foundational skills children use every day at school. These skills support learning, participation, independence, and confidence in the classroom. This includes the following skills:
Fine and gross motor skills
Visual-motor integration
Sensory processing
Emotional regulation
Social readiness
Self-care independence
Pre-academic foundations (early literacy and numeracy)
Children need to listen to instructions, stay with group activities, and shift attention between tasks. These skills support learning routines, group work, and classroom participation.
The screening includes two parts.
Our Occupational Therapist will spend aproximately 30 minutes your child depending on your child's needs and engagement.
You will be able to be in the room, but may choose to watch from outside the room.
As a part of the assessment you will also be asked to fill in a Parent / Guardian reporting tool which the therapist will review following the session.
Within 3 days of the assessment you will receive the screening report which will outline the current needs of your child. In addition, you will also receive relevant resource packs to support your child to practice key skills as required in the lead up to school.
In short, not at all.
If your little one is starting school this year, there is no time like the present to see where they are at. Following the assessment you will be provided with resources to help your little one focus on the skills they would benefit from developing further.
These skills are lifelong, and the need to develop them do not stop when school starts. It is much better to already be ahead of any concerns, rather than waiting until the end of term one for school to raise any concerns.
After all, the goal is for our kiddo's to not just survive... but thrive.
Every Child and every day-care / kinder is different. Whilst early supports are often great at picking up concerns, it is also quite possible that concerns have flown "under the radar".
It is unfortunately possible that your lil one has learnt to adapt to a singular setting with unconscious accomodations made by staff, which now, when faced with a new situation (school) looming on the horizon, reveal a long term struggle.
Ultimately, we trust your 'gut' as your kiddos' parent or guardian.
If you are uncertain, or have seen changes in your lil' one that makes you feel un-easy, this assessment may just be what your needing to help clarify your concerns, and help map out any new next steps.
Our Therapists provide you with a clear, parent-friendly summary with specific recommendations for your child. You can share this with teachers, kinder-educators and other professionals.
The purpose of this report is to highlight key needs and provide you with a clear roadmap forward, and to help your child start the new year ahead.
No, you do not need a referral. Families can book directly.
No. This is a screening, not a diagnostic assessment.
However, it can highlight areas where further assessment or ongoing OT support may be beneficial.
Our sessions are play-based and flexible. If your child needs extra time to warm up or engage, we adapt the session. We also incorporate parent observations and questionnaires if needed.
In short, Yes.
However, this is not the primary purpose of the assessment.
If the screening suggests your child would benefit from additional assessment or therapy, we can discuss options with you and support you through the next steps.
This is a program designed for families who are not currently receiving funding through other sources.
However, if your child already has an NDIS plan, this screening may be claimable under capacity building. It would be worth reviewing exisiting reports and assessments your child has already participated in to ensure that you have not already been provided the information you need.
If you are wanting to access this program under medicare please contact our service on 1300 577 929.
No special preparation is needed. Let your child know they are coming to “play some games” with a friendly therapist, and let them know you can stay with them.
Comfortable clothes for movement are helpful.
Yes—parents are welcome and encouraged to stay, especially to support comfort and engagement.
Parents may also choose to sit in the waiting space outside of the room at watch through the window.
This screening can compliment existing supports. The mini-report can be shared with your current therapist to help guide targeted intervention. It can be helpful at times to have what we call a 'secondary consult' - which is the opportunity to have a new set of eyes review a situation.
